Igniting the Scholar Within: A Faculty Workshop on Academic Writing and Publishing

With a vision to strengthen research culture and academic excellence among teacher educators, Jesus Training College, Mala organized a one-day Faculty Workshop on Academic Writing and Publishing titled "Igniting the Scholar Within" on 13 August 2025. The workshop was designed to equip faculty members with essential knowledge and practical skills required for producing quality research publications and adhering to ethical standards in scholarly communication.

The programme commenced with an Inauguration Ceremony held in the College Assembly Hall from 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The event began with a prayer rendered by the College Choir, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the workshop. Dr. Jasna P. Varijan, Principal of Jesus Training College, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of nurturing a vibrant research culture in teacher education institutions. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Vineesh Vattoly, Executive Director of the College, who emphasized the significance of continuous academic growth, quality research, and ethical publishing in enhancing institutional excellence. Felicitations were offered by Ms. Anusha Mol. M. S., Assistant Professor of General Education, while Ms. Sneha Menon P., Assistant Professor of General Education, proposed the vote of thanks.

Following the inaugural session, participants engaged in a series of intensive academic sessions conducted in the Conference Hall. The first technical session, held from 10.45 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., focused on "Publication of Research Outcome and Related Ethics." The session explored various aspects of responsible research practices, publication ethics, plagiarism prevention, authorship responsibilities, and selecting appropriate journals for disseminating research findings. Faculty members actively participated in discussions on maintaining integrity and transparency in scholarly publishing.

After the lunch break, the second technical session, conducted from 1.15 p.m. to 2.45 p.m., addressed the topic "How to Write and Publish a Research Paper?" This hands-on session provided practical guidance on identifying research problems, structuring a manuscript, writing effective abstracts and literature reviews, presenting research findings, responding to reviewers' comments, and navigating the publication process. The interactive nature of the session enabled participants to clarify doubts and gain confidence in preparing manuscripts for publication in reputed academic journals.

The workshop concluded with a Valedictory Session held in the Assembly Hall from 3.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., where participants reflected on the day's learning experiences and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening research and publication practices within the institution.

The workshop proved to be an enriching professional development initiative, inspiring faculty members to embrace scholarly inquiry, uphold research ethics, and contribute meaningfully to the academic community through quality publications.
