Four-Day Community Living Camp – Learning Beyond the Classroom

Jesus Training College, Mala, organized a Four-Day Community Living Camp from 27 to 30 August 2025 as part of its teacher education programme. The camp was designed to provide student teachers with experiential learning opportunities that foster leadership, cooperation, self-reliance, and community engagement.

Throughout the four-day programme, students actively participated in a variety of activities including group discussions, community service, cultural programmes, team-building games, and reflective sessions. Living together in a shared environment enabled participants to develop interpersonal skills, mutual respect, and a strong sense of responsibility.

The camp encouraged students to step beyond the traditional classroom setting and experience collaborative learning in a practical context. It also promoted values such as discipline, empathy, environmental awareness, and social commitment, which are essential qualities for future educators.

The Community Living Camp concluded with memorable experiences and strengthened friendships, leaving participants with valuable life lessons and a deeper understanding of teamwork, leadership, and community living.

Jesus Training College, Mala, organized a heartfelt farewell ceremony titled "The Curtain Call" on 29th August 2025 to honour the dedicated service and invaluable contributions of Ms. Lisa John. The programme was a touching tribute that celebrated her years of commitment, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the institution.

The ceremony commenced with a warm Welcome Address delivered by Rev. Fr. Vinish Vattoly, Executive Director of Jesus Training College, Mala. In his address, he welcomed the gathering and reflected on Ms. Lisa John's remarkable journey within the institution, appreciating her sincerity, professionalism, and lasting impact on the college community.

The event was presided over by Rev. Fr. Wilson Earathara, Manager of Jesus Training College, Mala. On 27 August 2025, Jesus Training College, Mala, organized a Study Tour to Fort Kochi, offering students an enriching educational experience beyond the classroom.

Fort Kochi, renowned for its historical significance, colonial architecture, multicultural heritage, and artistic atmosphere, provided students with an opportunity to explore Kerala's rich cultural legacy. During the visit, participants observed historical landmarks, heritage streets, museums, churches, art galleries, and traditional marketplaces that reflect the region's diverse history.

The study tour enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world experiences while enhancing their appreciation for history, culture, geography, and heritage conservation. Students also developed observation, communication, and collaborative skills through interactive learning during the visit.

The tour proved to be both educational and enjoyable, creating lasting memories while broadening students' perspectives on Kerala's cultural and historical richness.

Kalaprabha 2025: Celebrating Creativity, Talent, and Team Spirit

With the motto "Discover, Display, Delight," Jesus Training College, Mala organized its much-awaited Talents' Day – Kalaprabha 2025 on 25 August 2025. The vibrant event provided a platform for student teachers to discover their hidden talents, display their artistic abilities, and delight the audience through a variety of cultural performances. The programme reflected the institution's commitment to fostering creativity, confidence, and holistic development alongside academic excellence.

The event commenced at 9.30 a.m. with an inaugural ceremony in the College Assembly Hall, marking the beginning of a day filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and healthy competition. Students from various optional subjects participated wholeheartedly, transforming the campus into a lively celebration of art and culture.

The competitions were organized systematically according to the following schedule:

Recognizing the importance of compassionate healthcare and community service, Jesus Training College, Mala, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an awareness programme titled "Caring with Dignity, Comfort and Compassion: Palliative Care Services" on 22 August 2025 at 2.20 p.m. in the College Assembly Hall.

The programme aimed to create awareness among student teachers about the philosophy and practice of palliative care, emphasizing the importance of providing holistic support to individuals living with life-limiting illnesses. The session highlighted the need to care for patients with dignity, compassion, and respect while addressing their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

The programme featured distinguished resource persons from Hrudaya Palliative Care and Hospice, Irinjalakuda Diocese. Rev. Fr. Shaju Chirayath, Executive Director, shared valuable insights into the mission and services of palliative care, stressing that compassionate care extends beyond medical treatment to include emotional support, empathy, and the preservation of human dignity. He encouraged the participants to recognize palliative care as a humanitarian service that improves the quality of life for patients and their families.

The second session was led by Rev. Fr. Joseph Maliekal, Associate Executive Director of Hrudaya Palliative Care and Hospice. He elaborated on the community-based model of palliative care, highlighting the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, volunteers, caregivers, and society in ensuring comprehensive care for those facing serious illnesses. His presentation inspired participants to appreciate the role of community involvement in extending compassionate support to vulnerable individuals.

Adding an academic perspective to the programme, Rev. Fr. Joby Menoth, Ph.D. Research Scholar in Palliative Care Social Work, University of Madras, delivered an informative session on the social work dimensions of palliative care. The programme aimed to equip student teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed financial decisions and promote responsible financial behaviour.

The programme featured Mr. Sankarankutty K.K., Financial Literacy Counsellor, Mala, as the resource person. Drawing upon his expertise and practical experience, he delivered an engaging and informative session on the fundamentals of financial planning, emphasizing the importance of developing sound financial habits from an early stage of one's career.

During the session, the resource person discussed a wide range of topics, including budgeting, savings, banking services, investment opportunities, digital payment systems, financial security, insurance, and the significance of maintaining financial discipline. He also highlighted the need for financial independence, particularly among women, encouraging participants to become financially confident and capable of making informed economic decisions.

Special emphasis was placed on safe digital financial practices, protection against online financial fraud, and understanding consumer rights in financial transactions. The interactive session enabled participants to clarify their doubts regarding personal finance management, banking procedures, and investment options, making the programme highly practical and relevant.

Har Ghar Tiranga 2025: Celebrating the Spirit of Freedom and Patriotism

As part of the nationwide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Jesus Training College, Mala celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great patriotism and enthusiasm on 15 August 2025. The programme, organized under the theme "Har Ghar Tiranga – Tiranga in Every Home," brought together students, faculty members, and staff in a vibrant celebration of India's freedom, unity, and democratic values.

The celebrations commenced at 8.45 a.m. with a prayer led by Ms. Aparna Raj, followed by a warm welcome address by Ms. Gayathri Sagaran, setting a patriotic tone for the occasion. The highlight of the programme was the National Flag Hoisting Ceremony, performed by Dr. Jasna P. Varijan, Principal, Jesus Training College, Mala, as the gathering proudly saluted the National Flag and reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of the nation.

The programme continued with the rendition of the National Anthem by Ms. Krishnaveni C. R., Ms. Gayathri Krishna U., and Ms. Aleena Rose Shaju, creating an atmosphere of unity and national pride. This was followed by the National Pledge, led by Ms. Nycymol, encouraging everyone to uphold the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The webinar aimed to strengthen the digital competencies of student teachers by introducing advanced features of Microsoft Excel that are useful for academic, administrative, and professional purposes.

The resource persons demonstrated practical applications such as data management, formulas, functions, charts, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and efficient spreadsheet analysis. Participants gained hands-on knowledge that can be effectively applied in educational research, classroom management, and institutional documentation.

The interactive session enhanced students' confidence in using digital tools and emphasized the importance of technological proficiency in modern education. The webinar concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, encouraging participants to continue developing their ICT skills for future professional success.

The workshop was designed to equip faculty members with essential knowledge and practical skills required for producing quality research publications and adhering to ethical standards in scholarly communication.

The programme commenced with an Inauguration Ceremony held in the College Assembly Hall from 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The event began with a prayer rendered by the College Choir, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the workshop. Dr. Jasna P. Varijan, Principal of Jesus Training College, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of nurturing a vibrant research culture in teacher education institutions. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Vineesh Vattoly, Executive Director of the College, who emphasized the significance of continuous academic growth, quality research, and ethical publishing in enhancing institutional excellence. Felicitations were offered by Ms. Anusha Mol. M. S., Assistant Professor of General Education, while Ms. Sneha Menon P., Assistant Professor of General Education, proposed the vote of thanks.

Following the inaugural session, participants engaged in a series of intensive academic sessions conducted in the Conference Hall. The first technical session, held from 10.45 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., focused on "Publication of Research Outcome and Related Ethics." The session explored various aspects of responsible research practices, publication ethics, plagiarism prevention, authorship responsibilities, and selecting appropriate journals for disseminating research findings. Faculty members actively participated in discussions on maintaining integrity and transparency in scholarly publishing.

After the lunch break, the second technical session, conducted from 1.15 p.m. to 2.45 p.m., addressed the topic "How to Write and Publish a Research Paper?" This hands-on session provided practical guidance on identifying research problems, structuring a manuscript, writing effective abstracts and literature reviews, presenting research findings, responding to reviewers' comments, and navigating the publication process. The interactive nature of the session enabled participants to clarify doubts and gain confidence in preparing manuscripts for publication in reputed academic journals.

The workshop concluded with a Valedictory Session held in the Assembly Hall from 3.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., where participants reflected on the day's learning experiences and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening research and publication practices within the institution.

In commemoration of the 80th Hiroshima–Nagasaki Remembrance Day, the Social Science Club of Jesus Training College, Mala, under the initiative of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a Quiz Competition on 6 August 2025 at 3.00 p.m. in the College Assembly Hall.

The programme was conceived to honour the memory of the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to create awareness among student teachers about the devastating consequences of war and the enduring importance of peace, humanity, and global cooperation. As the world marked eight decades since one of history's most tragic events, the competition encouraged participants to reflect on the lessons of the past and the collective responsibility to build a peaceful future.

The quiz featured thought-provoking questions covering the historical background of World War II, the atomic bombings, international peace initiatives, nuclear disarmament, the United Nations, and contemporary efforts towards global harmony. Students actively participated with enthusiasm, demonstrating not only their historical knowledge but also their awareness of current global issues related to peace and conflict resolution.

The event served as an enriching educational experience, fostering critical thinking, historical understanding, and a sense of social responsibility among future educators. It also reinforced the role of education in promoting values of tolerance, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.

The inauguration was graciously led by Rev. Fr. Vinish V. Vattoly, Executive Director, whose inspiring address emphasized the importance of holistic education and encouraged student teachers to actively participate in club activities that nurture leadership, innovation, and social responsibility. He highlighted that clubs serve as dynamic platforms where knowledge extends beyond classrooms, enabling students to explore their talents and develop essential life skills.

The event officially launched four major academic domain clubs:

Literary Club (English & Malayalam)

The Literary Club aims to cultivate a love for language, literature, and creative expression. Through activities such as debates, poetry recitation, creative writing, storytelling, book reviews, and literary discussions, the club seeks to enhance communication skills and foster a rich literary culture among future educators.

Mathematics Club

The Mathematics Club was inaugurated with the vision of making mathematics engaging, enjoyable, and relevant. The club will organize mathematical games, quizzes, puzzles, exhibitions, model making, seminars, and problem-solving sessions to develop logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and appreciation for mathematical concepts.

Science Club (Physical & Natural Science)

The Science Club provides opportunities for experiential learning by encouraging scientific inquiry and innovation. Planned activities include science exhibitions, laboratory demonstrations, environmental awareness programmes, STEM workshops, field visits, and project-based learning experiences that promote curiosity and scientific temperament.

Social Science Club
