 Two-Day Workshop on Understanding the Self: A Journey Towards Self-Awareness and Professional Growth

The Jesus Training College, Mala, affiliated with the University of Calicut and recognized by NCTE, successfully organized a Two-Day Workshop on "Understanding the Self" on 27th and 28th November 2025 at the College Auditorium. The workshop was designed to help prospective teachers develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and professional identity through a series of expert-led interactive sessions.

The programme commenced on 27th November 2025 with an inspiring session by Ms. Reo July Jipsa, Assistant Professor, Jesus Training College, Mala, on "Critically Evaluate Oneself as a Prospective Teacher." She encouraged student teachers to reflect upon their personal beliefs, teaching philosophies, strengths, and areas for improvement. The session emphasized that effective teaching begins with self-reflection and a commitment to continuous personal and professional development. Through discussions and reflective activities, participants gained deeper insights into the qualities and responsibilities of an ideal educator.

The second session of the day was conducted by Mr. Faimen Paul, Assistant Professor, Jesus Training College, Mala, on the topic "Acting In, Acting Out: Theatre as a Tool for Self-Awareness and Connection." The workshop introduced theatre-based activities as powerful pedagogical tools for enhancing communication, empathy, creativity, and emotional expression. Participants actively engaged in role plays, improvisation exercises, and collaborative performances that fostered confidence, teamwork, and meaningful interpersonal connections. The session demonstrated how experiential learning can contribute significantly to both personal growth and effective classroom practice.

The workshop continued on 28th November 2025 with a thought-provoking session by Mr. Ebin Joseph, Assistant Professor, Jesus Training College, Mala, on "Gender and Upbringing." The session examined how family, culture, and society shape gender roles and individual identities from childhood. Participants critically explored gender stereotypes, unconscious biases, and the importance of promoting equality and inclusiveness in educational settings. The discussion inspired future teachers to adopt gender-sensitive approaches that foster respect, equity, and social justice within classrooms.

The concluding session was led by Ms. Elsamaria Davis, Assistant Professor, Jesus Training College, Mala, on "Deconstructing the Messages of Advertising." The resource person guided participants in critically analyzing advertisements and understanding how media constructs perceptions of beauty, success, gender, and consumerism. Through examples and interactive discussions, students learned to identify hidden messages, persuasive techniques, and stereotypes embedded in advertisements. The session emphasized the importance of developing media literacy and critical thinking skills, enabling future educators to help students become responsible and informed consumers of media.

Throughout the two-day workshop, participants actively engaged in discussions, reflective exercises, group activities, and interactive learning experiences. The programme successfully created a platform for student teachers to examine their identities, beliefs, values, and professional responsibilities while strengthening their emotional resilience, communication skills, and social awareness.

The Workshop on Understanding the Self concluded with a renewed commitment among participants to become reflective practitioners and compassionate educators. By integrating self-awareness, critical reflection, creativity, gender sensitivity, and media literacy, the workshop reinforced the holistic development of future teachers and aligned with the vision of Jesus Training College, Mala, to nurture competent, ethical, and socially responsible educators.

Constitution Day – Honouring the Values of Indian Democracy

The Social Science Club of Jesus Training College, Mala, observed Constitution Day on 26 November in the Assembly Hall to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and to promote constitutional values among students.

The programme featured a thought-provoking talk by Ms. Lakshmi K. J., II Year Social Science, who served as the speaker for the occasion. She explained the significance of the Constitution as the supreme law of the country and emphasized the fundamental rights, duties, democratic principles, equality, justice, liberty, and fraternity enshrined in it.

The session encouraged students to understand their responsibilities as informed citizens and inspired them to uphold constitutional values in their daily lives. The interactive nature of the programme allowed participants to reflect on the importance of democracy, rule of law, and responsible citizenship.

The Constitution Day celebration concluded with renewed commitment among students to respect and protect the ideals that form the foundation of the Indian Republic. The programme served as an enriching educational experience and reinforced the role of young citizens in building a just, inclusive, and democratic society.

Jesus Training College, Mala, organized a Workshop on Academic Writing with the objective of enhancing research and writing competencies among teacher educators and students. The workshop was held in the college auditorium and witnessed active participation from faculty members and student teachers.

The session was led by Dr. Jasna P. Varjian, an experienced academician and Principal of Jesus Training College, Mala. The workshop focused on the fundamental aspects of academic writing, including clarity of expression, organization of ideas, scholarly tone, and ethical considerations in academic work.

Dr. Jasna P. Varjian emphasized the importance of structured writing in research papers, dissertations, and academic publications. The session provided valuable insights into framing research problems, writing effective introductions, maintaining coherence, and adhering to academic conventions. Practical examples and explanations helped participants understand common challenges faced in academic writing and ways to overcome them.

ISO Internal Audit – Strengthening Quality and Excellence

As part of its continuous commitment to quality enhancement and institutional excellence, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jesus Training College, Mala, organized an ISO Internal Audit on 19 November 2025 at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall.

The audit was conducted by Ms. Sheena Bhaskar, Vice Principal, IQAC, ISO and NAAC Coordinator of the college. The programme was organized to evaluate the effectiveness of the institution's quality management system and ensure that academic and administrative processes align with ISO standards and institutional quality objectives.

During the audit, various departments presented their documentation, records, and best practices related to academic activities, administration, student support services, and institutional governance. The audit process provided an opportunity to review existing procedures, identify areas for improvement, and strengthen the culture of quality within the institution.

Ms. Sheena Bhaskar emphasized the importance of maintaining systematic documentation, continuous monitoring, and collaborative efforts in achieving excellence. She encouraged faculty and staff to view internal audits as opportunities for learning, self-evaluation, and continuous improvement rather than mere compliance exercises.

The interactive sessions enabled participants to clarify their queries regarding quality assurance practices and gain a deeper understanding of ISO requirements. The audit also highlighted the collective responsibility of every stakeholder in sustaining the institution's commitment to quality education and effective governance.

The programme concluded successfully with valuable observations and constructive suggestions for further enhancement. The ISO Internal Audit reaffirmed Jesus Training College's dedication to maintaining high academic standards, promoting accountability, and fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement in all its activities.
