Pi Fecta: Celebrating the Spirit of Mathematics on Pi Day

The Mathematics Option of Jesus Training College, Mala, celebrated Pi Day with great enthusiasm by organizing "Pi Fecta" on 13 March 2026. The event was designed to commemorate the mathematical constant π (Pi) while fostering logical thinking, mathematical curiosity, teamwork, and a love for learning among student teachers. The celebration was open to students from all optional subjects, making it a vibrant and inclusive academic event.

The celebration began with the morning assembly at 9:30 a.m., where Ms. Ripsy Rojas delivered an inspiring talk on the significance of Pi and its applications in mathematics, science, engineering, architecture, and everyday life. Her engaging presentation explored the fascinating history of Pi and encouraged students to appreciate the beauty and relevance of mathematics beyond the classroom.

The afternoon session commenced at 2:40 p.m. with a formal introduction to Pi Fecta, where the organizers welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives and activities planned for the celebration. Students were encouraged to approach mathematics creatively while developing problem-solving skills and collaborative learning through a series of interactive competitions.

One of the highlights of the programme was the Pi Memorization Contest, in which participants impressed the audience by reciting as many decimal places of π as possible. The competition showcased exceptional memory skills and generated excitement among both participants and spectators.

Adding an element of adventure to the celebration, the "Pi-rates Treasure Hunt" challenged teams from different optional subjects to solve mathematical clues and puzzles in search of hidden treasures. The activity successfully combined fun with learning while promoting teamwork, logical reasoning, and quick decision-making, making it one of the most engaging events of the day.

The excitement continued with the "Pi-Quest" Quiz Competition, which tested participants' knowledge in geometry, algebra, calculus, mathematical reasoning, and Pi-related trivia. The quiz witnessed enthusiastic participation and healthy competition, reflecting the students' keen interest in mathematics and analytical thinking.

The celebration concluded with the announcement of the winners and a prize distribution ceremony led by Dr. Rages John, Principal of Jesus Training College, Mala. Congratulating the winners and appreciating the efforts of the organizers and participants, he emphasized the importance of cultivating analytical thinking and mathematical aptitude among future teachers. He also encouraged students to continue exploring the fascinating world of mathematics with curiosity and confidence.

Pi Fecta 2026 was a memorable celebration that successfully blended learning with enjoyment through innovative and engaging activities. By encouraging creativity, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity, the programme strengthened students' appreciation for mathematics and demonstrated that learning can be both meaningful and enjoyable. The event concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired to embrace mathematics with renewed enthusiasm.
